Basic Function:

 

The primary role of Regulatory Compliance Engineer is to collaborate with the refrigeration, snack, beverage and coffee teams and others in meeting the needs of the organization. Specifically, this involves coordinating and executing product performance testing, regulatory approval testing, certification testing, agency testing and interfacing the regulatory agencies. The position reports to Manager, Regulatory Codes for Engineered Products The responsibilities of this role are listed, but not limited to, the below:

 

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Performs diverse and complex mechanical and electrical tests on the complete line of CMS products including research concepts and competitive products as they relate to regulatory compliance and/or products safety in accordance to domestic, international and customer requirements.
  • Interacts with and provides technical support to marketing, sales, manufacturing, sourcing, supplier quality, tech service and others.
  • Identifies functional problems and suggests resolutions.
  • Understands and executes against standard safety, agency, and customer certification/approval concepts, practices and procedures.
  • Analyzes test cases and provides regular progress reports.
  • Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.
  • Perform tests in accordance with UL/IEC/DOE/FCC/CMS/AHAM and customer standards.
  • Participate in continuous improvement, lean projects, and Kaizen events.
  • Primary contact for factory inspections/audit by outside agencies and customers.
  • Must maintain a current knowledge of changes in standard safety, agency, and customer certification/approval concepts, practices and procedures.

 

Qualifications and Required Skills:

  • Requires knowledge of agency-related test, qualification and inspection activities through 3rd party safety agencies to industry standards (UL, TUV, IEC, CSA, FCC, CE, ANSI, ISO, etc.).
  • Must be able to conduct regulatory and compliance testing which includes operating pre-compliance instruments and test equipment, understanding and applying test procedures and methods using fundamental mechanical/electrical principles and practices.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering plus 5 or more years of product design or product support experience related to regulatory compliance design issues, or the equivalent combination of education and regulatory compliance related experience.
  • Ability to safely and properly use instruments, controls, meters, equipment, and basic hand tools common to electrical/electronic testing and refrigeration service.
  • Good oral and written communication skills. (Excel, Word and PowerPoint)
  • Ability to read, collect, analyze, interpret engineering data, and prepare and submit formal reports.
  • Able to take direction and instructions to work independently as well as within a team.
  • Ability to interact with read and interpret 3D models and 2D engineering drawings.
  • Proficient in the use of data collection software such as LabView.
  • Some limited domestic and international travel may be required  
  • EPA  Section 608, Type I & II Certification preferred.
  • Experience with refrigeration systems using various HFC and natural refrigerants preferred.
  • Ability to defend regulatory requirements from a minority position.
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn, understand, interpret and apply regulatory, safety and compliance standards.
  • Some travel may be required to fulfill the responsibilities of this role.
