Job Summary:

Comfort Systems USA Northwest is looking for a dynamic and passionate Principal Engineer to lead a growing engineering team.  This professional will oversee research, development, and lead design build projects through all phases of the mechanical and plumbing process.  As the leader in engineering, this professional’s expertise and Professional Engineer license will allow them to stamp the final permit issued set of construction documents.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Participate in the preparation of in-house engineering proposals as requested by construction department related to design build projects that can be accurately communicated to the client.
• Interact with the other company divisions and provide technical, code support, etc.
• Oversee the mechanical and plumbing design of projects and the production of construction related documents.
• Directly oversee engineering projects assigned to engineering team members. Oversight is not to be confused with actual production. While the Principal Engineer will often be directly involved with production, engineering team will assist in production of the construction documents and supporting calculations. It is the responsibility of the Principal Engineer to continually be aware of and directing the technical aspects of the engineering design.
• Participate in the quality control process with the engineering team to assure that all engineering documents are at the company’s standard level of care prior to being released.
• Responsible for leading continuous improvement processes related to deliverables and full cycle of the engineering design process.
• Be a subject matter expert with respect to the code requirements and provide support to the company divisions when needed. These codes include International Mechanical Code (IMC), Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC), International Fuel Gas Code (IFGC), Washington State Energy Code (WSEC), and the Facilities Guidelines Institute for the Design and Construction of Hospitals and Outpatient Facilities (FGI).
• Push the envelope of leveraging technology. Understand the development, acceptance, and use of 3D Modeling (AutoCAD Revit) as a design tool, understand the backbone of the technology and assist in providing 3D design, or a hybrid of 3D and 2D design, in our engineering documents. This is not to be confused with being an actual Revit operator, although such an option may exist. The goal for the Principal Engineer is support 3D modeling, not actually perform it

Skills:

• Provide professional effective communication and support in mentoring the engineering team
• Be proficient in using load analysis software, particularly Carrier HAPS.
• Be proficient in 2D AutoCAD as a design tool.
• Be proficient in Microsoft Suite particularly with Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams

Qualifications

• Must have a Professional Engineer (PE) license with the State of Washington for mechanical disciplines.
• BS in Mechanical Engineering or other degree  

Preferred Qualifications but not required:

• 8 plus years of experience as an MEP Engineer with 2 or more years in a management or leader role.
