ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Certification Engineer works under the direction of an Engineering Team Lead and/or Senior Engineer to perform the following: 
  • Supports preparation of technical proposals for customers by reviewing and interpreting regulatory compliance specifications and requirements. Includes providing certification engineering labor and schedule estimates for the proposed project. 
  • Supports project management personnel in the creation and maintenance of certification project schedules, resource assignments, and budgets. Includes establishment of certification milestones required to complete projects. 
  • Identifies the regulatory compliance requirements during project conceptual phase. Generates means of compliance, project certification basis, safety assessments, and relevant regulatory materials. 
  • Define and plan resolution of critical regulatory conditions, processes, potential special conditions, and equivalent safety findings. Identify appropriate certification path with foreign regulatory agencies.  
  • Complete project certification application and create preliminary project specific certification plan (PSCP). Forward project initiation documents to appropriate regulatory agency personnel for review.  
  • Work closely with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in managing, refining, and achieving PSCP objectives to ensure that all agreed upon product specific certification requirements are met.  
  • Reviews major analyses and tests pertaining to the development of new designs, methods, materials, and reports to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. Deliverables consist of intermediate engineering principles, Company standards, and procedures.  
  • Reviews drawings and reports to ensure conformity to regulatory requirements. Identifies design errors, omissions, and other deficiencies that could impede regulatory approval of the design data package. Directs revisions and improvements to other engineers.   
  • Prepares or directs generation of detailed test plans, reports, conformity requests, issue papers, and compliance documentation by coordinating with other certification and engineering personnel. Reviews to ensure that deliverables show compliance with customer, functional, and regulatory requirements. Researches regulations, develops data, and creates final documentation in response to FAA or foreign regulatory agency requests. Effectively communicates disposition to FAA or foreign regulatory agency during a timely manner. 
  • Submits completed design data package to appropriate regulatory agency groups such as aircraft certification, flight standards, manufacturing inspection, and continued airworthiness. Serves as certification and technical liaison with regulatory agencies to ensure quick and seamless issuance of supplemental type certificates. Provide routine project status to internal resources.  
  • Recommends and participates or leads organizational improvement initiatives that involve cross-functional team settings and responsibilities.

Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS: 
  • BS in engineering or related field of study with 2+ years of experience, including knowledge of the FAA certification processes, typical. Significant industry experience in lieu of Bachelor of Science degree will be considered.
  • Strong MS Office skills: Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel.
  • Skills in the use of 2D and/or 3D design software a plus.
  • Optimally utilizes all channels of communications.
