Job Description:
Armatec Survivability, Dorchester, ON offices seeks Design Engineer to perform the following duties:
Technical: Interpret technical requirements to develop component level specifications; Create and sketch design concepts to meet technical requirements; Develop simple free body diagrams for single components and systems to define load cases; Evaluate and calculate component stresses resulting from defined load cases; Conduct material selection based on resulting stress and trade off studies; Develop 3D models using Solidworks 2012; Produce drawings in accordance with ASME Y14.100 drawing standards and associated standards (ie. ASME Y14.5, Y.14.24, etc); Conduct part and system level tolerance stack-up analysis; Develop welding requirements in accordance with ANSI/AWS welding standards; Develop and document data, analysis, reports, presentations, proposals or similar using Microsoft PowerPoint, Word and Excel; Conduct manufacturability assessments during development; Perform basic trade studies to ensure an optimal balance between weight, cost, risks and functionality or similar has been achieved; Plan and execute verification activities; Write technical reports and analysis to verify requirement compliance; Perform detailed FMEA analysis on components, assemblies and systems; Conduct safety, reliability and maintainability and human factors engineering analysis; manage engineering data using Enterprise PDM; Implementation of Engineering Change Orders (ECOs); Peer review concepts, models, drawings, reports or similar; Provide technical field support as required.
Personal & Project Management: Manage projects from requirements through to life cycle management in accordance with EIA-632 or similar Systems Engineering guidelines; Adhere to customer and corporate requirements as well as applicable standards; Assist in developing project plans and schedules; Assist in developing risk mitigation plans; Review and resolve issues associated with production, productivity, quality, and customer expectations; Present and participate in design reviews; Estimate and track individual task durations; Conduct presentations for internal and external audiences; Continuously work to identify opportunities for improvement (schedule, design, process or similar); Liaise with other departments within the company to ensure others have the necessary information required to meet the projects requirements.
Must have a min. of Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering; Min. 7-10 yrs of applicable experience in product design; Demonstrated experience & understanding of: Basic design calculations and techniques used in engineering analysis, Technical drawing interpretation and creation in accordance with ASME Y.14.00 and associated standards, Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) in accordance with ASME Y.14.5, 3D modeling using Solid Works 2012 (or similar); Knowledge of metallic design, manufacturing and associated welding practices; Knowledge of surface treatments required for environmental protection, adhesion or wear; Ability to develop weld fixtures and other manufacturing tooling; Ability to develop work instructions and procedures; Project management experience (team or individual); Knowledge of Systems Engineering principles in accordance with EIA-632 (or similar); Technical report writing and presentation experience; Proven ability to effectively trouble shoot and problem solve.
