Our client, a global leader in packaging and process innovation in the food and beverage industry is looking for a Controls Engineer with solid experience in the food and beverage industry to join their growing team.  The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills both written and verbal, leadership qualities, and a solid understanding of other engineering fields. (mechanical, electrical, controls, or structural) and managed manufacturing projects in a previous role. 

Desired Proficiencies and Accountabilities
  1. Understand and follow internal engineering procedures
  2. Interface with other department engineers and project team members
  3. Manage multiple controls projects concurrently
  4. Help Sales and Marketing in making presentations to Customers and Clients
  5. Field Surveys
  6. Client contact / correspondence
  7. Vendor coordination
  8. Develop and lead in the preparation of drawing design packages, documentation lists, and schedules
  9. Preparation of engineering calculations
  10. Preparation of engineering documents including installation specifications, equipment specifications, and Bill of Materials
  11. Help Sales and Marketing in making presentations to Customers and Clients
  12. As required, assist in the preparation of project status reports and schedules
  13. Controls Engineering
    1. Understand and follow the company's Controls Department procedures
    2. Development of design concepts and controls strategies
    3. Development of system functional specifications and sequence of operations
    4. Development and debug of HMI applications
    5. Development and debug of PLC programs
    6. Development and debug of database systems
    7. Commissioning and start-up
    8. Preparation of as-built documents and drawings, technical and maintenance manuals and final documentation
    9. Act as a controls engineering resource to all other departments
    10. Keep track of state of the art control technologies
 Minimum Qualifications
 
  1. Education - Bachelor of Science Degree – Technical, Engineering Preferred
  2. Experience - More than 3 years’ experience in controls engineering.
  3. Self-starter with high motivation
  4. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  5. Leadership qualities for operating in team environments
  6. Understanding of other engineering fields
  7. Ability to develop, evaluate, and implement design concepts
  8. Ability to manage project scope of work, budget, and schedule
  9. Controls Engineering
    1. Understanding of processes and process controls
    2. Understanding of electrical principles and systems
    3. Understanding of electrical and pneumatic drawings
    4. Understanding of Flow Diagrams, Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams, and Symbols
    5. Understanding of Control System Design and Components. i.e. PLC technology, HMI technology, instrumentation, pneumatics, motors, etc.
    6. Knowledge of various packaging operations such conveying, filling, case packing, and palletizing
    7. Proficient in Allen-Bradley PLC programming and other PLC manufacturers
    8. Proficient in HMI applications development such as RsView
    9. Knowledge of database applications such as MS SQL Server.
    10. Knowledge of higher-level programming languages such as VBA or C++
    11. Knowledge of communication networking and protocols such as Ethernet and DeviceNet
    12. Ability to perform a project start-up
