Job Description:

Planate Management Group is a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia, USA with a technical support center in the Philippines that provides program management and facilities engineering services worldwide. Planate is a small business provider of planning, design, infrastructure management, technical consulting, engineering, and construction management services in support of the US Department of Defense (DOD) and its Service missions (Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps), along with other US federal agencies.

The Site Safety Representative will be responsible to support the major construction project’s Senior Resident engineer, in the projects in real time safety oversight and management process. The CM-SSR will serve as a Construction Manager Safety Representative in the Field   Resident Engineer Office of Construction & Facilities Management, at the VAMC San Juan, PR. 

This is contingent on the award of the contract.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate, monitor the construction contractor’s performance, as it relates to compliance with the Site Safety Specification for each contract and recognized laws and standards for construction and VA safety
  • Assess the contractors Accident Prevention (APP) and/or Construction Safety & Health Plan as coordinated with the VA SRE and the Medical Center management staff
  • Establish and maintain a safety awareness and prevention program, as coordinated with the SRE, the General Contractor and the local Management, that will safeguard against work site safety incidents
  • Evaluate the construction activity and prepare hazard analysis and technical positions on the appropriateness of the proposed mitigation strategies
  • Responsible for the overall construction safety but the Government will provide continuous oversight to assure a robust Safety and Occupational Health Program
  • Monitor the contractor’s adherence to the contract safety requirements and report identified concerns and deficiencies to the SRE
  • Coordinate all Interim Life Safety Measures (ILSM) with the Medical Center staff and maintain a system for traceable concurrence and adherence to the approved procedures for each activity
  • Perform other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.

Qualifications to be successful in the role:

  • Shall be a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and/or Certified Safety and Health Technician (CSHT). The Government may consider equivalent or better safety related certifications
  • Shall possess a minimum of 10-year experience as a major Construction safety official
  • Ability to recognize potentially hazardous construction activity and perform a risk analysis as needed to assure the health and well-being of patience, visitors, staff and tradesmen
  • Must maintain a working knowledge of major construction activity and the typical risk associated with specific construction activity
  • Must have working knowledge of the specific requirements and mitigations defined by current OSHA standards
  • Able to utilize a variety of software programs to monitor, update, and produce work products by applying knowledge of computer literacy
  • Able to exercise good interpersonal skills
  • Must be bilingual.
