Established Civil Engineering and Land Surveying firm is looking for a motivated, honest and accountable Survey Party Chief / Office Survey Technician with a positive attitude and work ethic to be a part of our Surveying team.
 
Job Responsibilities
 
Survey Party Chief is responsible to plan, coordinate, and organize survey party to ensure that tasks are completed accurately and efficiently, meeting or exceeding project deadlines; to perform a variety of complex and difficult professional survey tasks as survey party chief like research and calculations for boundary surveys, and calculations for construction staking; to perform field survey work for boundary, topographic and construction surveys; and to provide technical survey assistance to engineering staff.  Said position will work under the supervision of a Licensed Land Surveyor.
 
Other responsibilities include, but not limited to, the following:
 
• Ensuring proper and safe operation of equipment following methods and procedures for field survey work
• Ensuring the safety, health and wellbeing of yourself and survey party by observing and maintaining a safe working environment
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with survey crew, clients, contractors, office staff and the public in general, demonstrating a professional manner at all times
• Perform survey calculation support in the office, preparing, or assisting in the preparation of, boundary plats, maps, and legal descriptions.
• Maintain company vehicles, tools, and surveying equipment that are assigned to you. 
• Prepare accurate field notes of work performed showing lines, angles, distances, benchmarks, mathematical calculations, and other data pertinent to the field survey
• Operate office equipment including computers and supporting word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
• Review maps, deeds, plans, and related data to determine the most efficient method of conducting assigned survey projects
• Locate and identify monuments, benchmarks, property markers, and other reference points required for survey control.
• Train and instruct crewmembers in surveying methods, procedures and practices, and in the proper use and care of survey instruments and equipment.
 
Minimum Qualifications and Skills:
 
• Field Party Chief, 3 years (Preferred)
• Surveying Experience, 10 years minimum (Required) 
• High School Diploma or GED
• Must be authorized to work in the United States
• Must have experience in performing Topographic Surveys, Construction Staking Layout, & Boundary Surveys
• Must be experienced and proficient with Robotic Total Stations, GPS, Data Collectors (Trimble Equipment Preferred)
• Have working knowledge of Trimble Business Center, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and intranet/internet
• Knowledge of Civil3D/AutoCAD (preferred but not required)
• Must be able to perform survey field work, and work outside in all weather conditions
• Able to work safe, independent, and with minimal supervision.
• Have knowledge of field/office surveying methods, practices, techniques, legalities and mathematical procedures for surveying.
• Have knowledge of elementary principles and practices of surveying for engineering projects, including construction calculations.
• Able to understand and interpret legal descriptions and record survey maps
• Proficient in understanding and interpreting engineering construction plans, diagrams, and notes. 
• Must be able to perform outdoor physical activities, including pounding stakes into the ground with a ten pound sledgehammer, lifting up to 50 pounds, carrying equipment up steep inclines and walking around construction sites and undeveloped land.
• Able to perform complex mathematical calculations with speed and accuracy.
• Able to plan and organize the work of the field survey crew to achieve optimum efficiency.
• Able to work effectively in a team environment and to supervise field survey personnel.
• Have solid understanding of project budget requirements, time management skills, and client relations.
• Strong written and oral communication skills 
• Good writing & penmanship skills.
• Must be capable of working in either an office or field environment, as needed.
• Strong analytical/critical thinking skills
• Solid decision making skills with the company’s best interest in mind
• Must be organized, able to multi-task & prioritize while maintaining exceptional attention to detail.
• Ability to work efficiently in an organized way
• Must speak, read, and write English fluently
• Willing to travel
• Valid CA Driver's License with insurable DMV record (required to maintain a clean driving record)
• Land Surveyor in Training (LSIT) certification is a plus with goal in acquiring Land Surveyors License
