Job Description:

Position:  Environmental Scientist/National Environmental Protection Act (NEPA) Practitioner

Location: Nashville, Memphis, Knoxville, or Charleston office

EnSafe Inc., is seeking a self-motivated NEPA Practitioner with attention to detail and strong communication skills.  Individuals need to be willing and able to work with peers across various offices and accomplish tasks associated with a variety of projects in any given week. The ability to work directly with clients is imperative. 

Professional Responsibilities: 

  • Typical project assignments will involve managing and completing some or all aspects of the NEPA process for our federally funded clients
  • Initial coordination, special studies, draft and final NEPA documents
  • Manage the public review process and drafting project closure documentation (FONSI/FONPA)
  • Typical projects include various military, Department of Transportation, Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) facilities as well as other project sites.   

Requirements:

  • We require a BS in environmental science, public health, or related health or environmental science discipline
  • Minimum of four years of NEPA experience (preferably within a professional services organization)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the application of NEPA for multiple federal agencies
  • Project management experience
  • Experience in Categorical Exclusions (CATEX) and Environmental Assessments 
  • Technical expertise in biological resources (ecology, wildlife, threatened and endangered species), wetlands and steams are a plus
  • Understanding of state and federal regulatory frameworks, the Section 106 review process 
  • Strong client communication and writing skills
  • Ability to direct internal teams to accomplish special studies (wetland delineations, Phase I ESAs, etc.).
