Job Description:

The State Maintenance Engineer position provides guidance and support to the Maintenance Sections through maintenance project development and design, project management, and serving as the Statewide pavement and bridge preservation coordinator. This position brings expertise in infrastructure management and maintenance to develop Statewide programs and provides technical decisions on project development and compliance with regulatory reporting and requirements for the unit. 

The position continually develops Statewide maintenance preservation programs for pavements and bridges in alignment of national trends relying on the Federal focus of preservation and asset management.

Your duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Develop and design of maintenance projects throughout the State and applies current engineering principles and theories, design specifications, and federal, state, and local design standards to develop safe, efficient, and economical project designs;

  • Lead a team of engineering tech positions and/or consultant designers in the development of projects and serve as the Maintenance Project Resident Engineer;

  • Direct and manage all activities and personnel involved in the development of plans, specifications, and estimates for the design of Maintenance transportation projects;

  • Assure that the design complies with:  the project scope, schedule, and budget, and current design engineering criteria, standards, practices, theory and procedures and is professionally certifiable in accordance with Federal and State standards; 

  • Create and execute preventative maintenance strategies for the Department;

  • Assist the Regions, Maintenance Sections and the structural asset management unit with identifying and prioritizing needed structural work for individual structures or groups of structures;

  • Provide support to Division and Sections including training, websites, presentation, public inquiries and technical expertise;

  • Manage the preventative maintenance program including inventory, planning and coordinating work order creation and reporting and development sustainable maintenance;

  • Other job duties as assigned
