As the assistant resident engineer, you will work with the resident engineer to manage public projects. Your main responsibilities will include overseeing construction projects to ensure they are built according to plans and specifications. If you are a current State of Oregon employee, you must apply through your employee Workday profile.A day in the life: Assist the resident engineer in performing contract administration tasks for state transportation projects.Interpret and review contract documents (special provisions, plan sheets, standard specifications, construction manual, etc.) to provide guidance and clarity when issues develop.Establish and maintain professional relationships with contractors, public agencies, the public and all other stakeholders.Ensure appropriate record-keeping processes are maintained during the entirety of each assigned project.Negotiate and prepare cost estimates for Contract Change Order (CCO) work.Review projects and inspect work progress to ensure compliance with plans, specifications and permits.Review, prepare and coordinate approval for project submittals and documents.Review contractors’ project schedules for completeness and accuracy; identify and coordinate project staffing needs based on schedules.Provide general oversight to ensure contract compliance with office of civil rights requirements.Work is completed in the office and in the field, frequently work in close proximity to highway traffic and construction hazards, and will drive ODOT vehicles to construction sites and other locations as needed. You must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s).
