This is a Civil Service Position. Therefore, an eligibility list must be created to hire from. ENTRANCE EXAMINATIONS FOR ESTABLISHMENT OF ELIGIBILITY LISTS APPLICATION DEADLINE: 4:30 P.M., October 7, 2024 Applicants who meet the minimum requirements will be contacted to participate in the Assessment Process to create a Civil Service list. Starting salary of $21.14 per hour. The Engineering Technician I is a member of our Civil Engineering team that performs related work for environmental, water, sewer, street, and other public works projects and programs. This position inspects, documents, and tracks use of the Right-of-Way; performs control testing of concrete materials; assists in surveying operations, field measurements; and project inspection; locates sewer lines, including on call emergencies after hours; and can perform engineering observation on projects with oversight from supervisor or an Engineering Tech II. Training / Education and Experience Requirements High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)Valid driver’s licenseCertifications to inspect/document field quantities; Iowa DOT Portland Cement Concrete I (PCC1) Certification and Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA1) Certification Required within 12 months of hire Skill / Abilities Requirements Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance;Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of houses, buildings, or other structures such as highways and roads;Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar;Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and their applications;Maintain records and prepare reportsUses computers and related software applications; The full job description can be found here.
