 Hi-Tek Manufacturing is searching for an experienced Tool Design Engineer who wishes to advance his or her career in advanced manufacturing technology by executing a higher level of workmanship. Essential Duties and Tasks Reporting to the Tool Room Supervisor, the Tool Designer designs complicated dies, tools, gauges, jigs, and fixtures. Works from process sheets and parts prints. Studies parts prints and operation sheets to design tooling for maximum economy of operation consistent with machine limitations, quantities to be produced and close tolerance specifications. Requires thorough knowledge of manufacturing methods and machine shop practices, sufficient knowledge of mathematics to solve design problems, the ability to originate ideas and incorporate them into the design. May utilize computer-aided design techniques to perform applicable design work Essential Tasks: Design simple/straightforward tooling that is as practical and cost-effective as possible while meeting the needs of the process and the cost/timing commitments made to customersAble to visualize in 3D and communicate using spatial reasoningMaintain working knowledge of tool design within 3-D GraphicsPlan, conduct research, and implement engineering on complex tooling projectsCreate and maintain BOMs, part numbers, prints and other technical documentation necessary to manufacture and operate toolingParticipate in product and tooling design reviews and critique designs from a technical perspective, including Design for Manufacturability. Coordinate with a cross-functional team on tooling projectsIdentify opportunities for continuous improvement of tooling processes to reduce production downtime, improve efficiency, manufacturing, product design and suppliers/customers. Convey information clearly and effectively through formal and informal documentsSupport other Engineers on significant projectsPerform under AS9100 quality standards and NADCAP accreditationAny other duties needed to help drive our vision, fulfill our mission, and abide by our organization’s valuesFollow all Hi-Tek policies and procedures, including the use of proper PPE Education and Experience B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent discipline preferred.
