Brazos Electric is looking for a talented Engineer for our Electrical Transmission Design department to join our dynamic team. In this role, you'll play a crucial part in the design and planning of essential system protection and control facilities, ensuring the reliability and safety of our electrical infrastructure.What You’ll Do:Planning and Analysis:Strategic Enhancements: Plan and develop improvements for protection and control systems, performing detailed studies such as short circuit and breaker rating studies. Your analyses will support ERCOT interconnections and ensure our systems are optimized for peak performance.System Coordination: Set protective relay settings to ensure proper protection and coordination of system facilities. Analyze system fault records and prepare comprehensive reports for internal and external stakeholders, including the Cooperative and ERCOT.Compliance and Education: Stay up-to-date with NERC requirements, particularly PRC-027, and attend relevant ERCOT, NERC meetings, and technical conferences to maintain professional engineering continuing education requirements.Design: Innovative Solutions: Prepare, analyze, and validate engineering drawings, specifications, and system data to determine design factors for projects involving critical equipment like protective relays, transformers, circuit breakers, and more.Safety and Compliance: Ensure all designs meet applicable codes, regulations, and safety standards. Promote a culture of safety awareness and continuous improvement within the organization.Vendor Collaboration: Work closely with the purchasing department and vendors to ensure product specifications meet our rigorous standards.Support: Technical Troubleshooting: Diagnose and troubleshoot protection-related systems, supporting operational modifications, repairs, or enhancements.Internal and External Collaboration: Provide technical support across various departments within Brazos Electric and maintain strong relationships with external contractors, consultants, and member cooperative personnel.Field Investigations: Conduct field investigations and inspections, offering on-site support and ensuring project completion and compliance.What You’ll Bring: Educational Background: Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited university.Technical Proficiency: Experience with three-phase power systems and knowledge in one or more of the following areas (training provided where needed):Relay settings and analysis using Aspen OneLinerShort circuit studies and breaker rating studiesSchweitzer protective relays and automation controllersFamiliarity with SCADA, microwave, VPNs, and TCP/IP networkingConfiguring relay settings using SEL AcSELerator QuickSetModifying and checking protection and control schematics and wiring diagrams using AutoCAD or MicrostationWhy Brazos Electric?
