Job Description:
As a Geotechnical Engineering Manager with a focus on civil and geotechnical engineering, you will play a pivotal role in our company’s success by leading and managing projects that impact critical infrastructure, including retaining walls, dams, airports, and roadways. In this role, you will leverage your expertise to conduct thorough geotechnical investigations, provide technical guidance in geotechnical design, and support our established Expert Witness services. This role requires a balance of technical proficiency, project management, and client-facing skills to drive successful project outcomes, expand our service offerings, and reinforce our reputation for engineering excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
● Geotechnical Design & Analysis: Develop, review, and approve geotechnical designs and solutions that are safe, effective, and compliant with regulatory standards. Projects may include foundations, retaining walls, slopes, embankments, pavement design, and earth retention systems.
● Subsurface Investigations: Plan, coordinate, and conduct geotechnical investigations, including field sampling, laboratory testing, and analysis. Interpret data to assess soil, rock, groundwater conditions, and site-specific geotechnical challenges, supporting civil infrastructure projects.
● Expert Witness Services: Provide technical expertise and support to our Expert Witness services, delivering comprehensive evaluations and objective opinions on geotechnical issues for legal proceedings. Prepare reports and testify as needed, offering technical clarity and credibility on complex cases.
● Project Management: Lead and oversee geotechnical engineering projects from inception through completion, ensuring that projects are on time, within budget, and aligned with client expectations. Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including civil, structural, and environmental engineers, to deliver integrated design solutions.
● Client Liaison & Business Development: Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, building and maintaining strong relationships through open communication and reliable service. Identify and pursue opportunities to expand the Reno office’s geotechnical engineering portfolio through proactive client outreach, proposal development, and the promotion of our Expert Witness and subsurface investigation services.
● Team Development & Mentorship: Support the growth and development of junior engineers and technical staff through mentorship, training, and knowledge-sharing. Foster a collaborative team environment that encourages innovation, continuous learning, and alignment with our core values.
Requirements:
● Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field. Master's degree is preferred. Compensation of a Master’s program is available.
● Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in the relevant jurisdiction, specifically including California and Nevada.
● Proven experience in geotechnical engineering, including foundation design, soil mechanics, slope stability analysis, and ground improvement techniques.
● Strong proficiency in relevant software and tools for geotechnical analysis and design (e.g., AutoCAD, Geo5, LPile, etc.).
● Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to think critically in complex geotechnical situations.
● Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with team members, clients, and stakeholders.
● Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
